ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture treatments can engage directly with local tissues or be used to affect change on a more systemic basis. My treatments often combine these two concepts and may involve methods from various styles of acupuncture. When appropriate I use electro acupuncture and may employ adjunctive therapies including bodywork, traction, cupping, moxa, and guasha. My treatments are tailored to the needs of the patient at the time they are assessed.

BODYWORK AND MASSAGE

I provide focused bodywork and massage in conjunction with acupuncture treatment. I also offer Shiatsu, Japanese bodywork that employs the use of hand pressure along channels of the body in addition to traction and stretching for the purpose of assisting the body in healing, returning to a relaxed parasympathetic state, relieving pain, and much more.

HERBAL MEDICINE

My education and certification include Chinese herbal therapy. Unlike many western herbs and supplements, Chinese herbs are often administered as a formula of multiple herbs that are taken together. Herbal formulas allow for a dynamic, multi-strategy, multi-purpose, and effective approach to addressing pathological factors. Herbal formulas can be taken as pills, teas (decoctions), powders, granules, and more. Chinese herbal formulas can be modified to address patients’ specific needs and may be based on modern formulas or more classical formulas that were developed over 2000 years ago. Chinese herbal formulas can be used as stand alone treatments to address a wide range of health concerns or in combination with acupuncture. Herbal therapy may or may not be appropriate for use in conjunction with other herbal or pharmaceutical therapies and should be assessed on a case by case basis.
